Simultaneous Space. The installation consisted of two distinct parts. The first part is a beam structure and picture frames that attach to it. The second part of the project uses the book form to examine the way we have come to study or view photographic spatial images. A mechanical book is constructed of aluminum and wood with engraved copper pages. The pages open and close automatically as the viewer moves through the space. Simultaneous Space was funded with a Fusion-Fission/NEA grant from Real Art Ways in Hartford in March, 1989. The grant is supported by the Inter-Arts Program of the National Endowment for the Arts, The Rockefeller Foundation and Society for Savings. Additional support was received from Polaroid and from The Foundation for Contemporary Performance Art. "Simultaneous Space" was installed at the Zilkha Gallery of Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT) May 1 - June 4, 1990.
